Book Review 5 out of 5 stars! First off if you haven't read " Fall of the King Saber " book 3 in "The Tales of the Swordsmen" read that first! This little novella contains spoilers for the ending of said book! * * * * “Oh, Li Ming, how am I supposed to raise this wayward daughter of yours? She is wicked and wild and will not treat her elders with respect." - Tao Jun This is a fun little read as a 0.5 between " Fall of the King Saber " and " Echo of the Blue Mountain "! Shu Yan and Tao Jun come across a woman being harassed by a man. Shu Yan intervening and showcasing how much she has matured under her teachings with Li Ming and Tao Jun. Only like a lot of men who can't take no for an answer A Dou isn't letting go of what Shu Yan did. . . How will our little apprentice handle this sequence of events?! I've missed Shu Yan's snark and sass along with Tao Jun and his dramatics! The two pairing well as Tao Jun teaches Shu Yan....

Major spoilers ahead if you haven't read the previous three volumes of this series! * * * * "Death is the way of the jianghu." - Tao Jun The Swordsmen of Blue Mountain have returned! Only it isn't a joyous occasion as Li Ming remains in a coma and Tao Jun bears the weight of his failures from the temple. She Who Pacifies the North has arrived and is leaving burned villages in her wake. General Peng is here to set things straight and flush out the Black Tigers but at what cost? Book Review 5 out of 5 stars! First and foremost, this book is part two of "Tales of the Magistrate". It can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading part one first, " The Touch of Murder ". It just helps to set the stage for things and introduce the characters. Overall you will get a better reading experience to read them in order. "I hate paperwork." - Tao Jun (his number one archnemesis!) Being forced into actually doing his job, Tao Jun grits his teeth as he's sent to do a bureaucratic task. Not enjoying a minute of it until things turn interesting. Oh and a crime scene involving a murder and is that another body over there? Gladly taking over the case Tao Jun focuses in on the new task that's keeping him away from his stuffy office. Until a cold chill rushes down his spine as he notices some things about the crime scenes that causes deja-vu for this chaotic magistrate. Facing old demons from his past he knows for a fact were gone...

Book Review 5 out of 5 stars! First and foremost! You must read Volumes One and Two before you dive into this book. The books follow a continuous arc and plotline. Meaning this review will contain spoilers if you haven't read, " Sword of Sorrow, Blade of Joy " and " Fangs of the Black Tiger " first. The first two volumes are excellent and you will not be disappointed! "They may have kept you alive, but what I am teaching you will make you truly great." - Li Ming "You can't be afraid to learn something unorthodox." - Tao Jun Li Ming's agreed to being Shu Yan's master and to train her. FINALLY! Only he's soon regretting his decision as ghosts from his past begin to haunt him. Worse than the on going nightmares ever have. Not to mention the impending duel with General Shazha Kui. . . Li Ming really doesn't have time to train an apprentice and he knows he isn't a great teacher. Yet he promised!  Shu Yan never wants to get ...

The next book picks up right where the first one ended, so there will be some spoilers in this review if you haven't read " Sword of Sorrow, Blade of Joy ". "A swordsmen, a magistrate, and a merchant?" Jingyi chuckled. "We sound like a bunch of heroes in a tavern story." Shu Yan's been taken and the swordsmen's trying to stay hot on the trail leading to her. But nothing is easy and Li Ming finds himself needing help. Maybe journeying alone isn't always the best. Having company makes traveling better, sometimes very entertaining. Even if the company can be annoying at times. Will Li Ming ever admit that he actually likes the girl? Will he be able to find and rescue her? "You're scared of your own fire." - Zhen Shu Yan's having to face her own array of problems. Having fo...
